The 2012 Oakland HS varsity baseball schedule has been released.  This year’s schedule features matchups against several teams from the 2011 postseason, such as Overton HS, Independence HS, and Mt. Juliet HS, as well as the usual stiff competition from within District 7AAA.

The first preseason contest is February 18 against 2011 State Tournament participant Independence HS.  The Eagles are looking to rebuild in 2012 after losing a strong graduating class.  On February 25, the Patriots return home to face another 2011 State Tournament participant, Columbia Central HS.  Columbia looks to make another run to the state tournament, led by MTSU commitment Heath Slatton.  Goodpasture HS, a solid program year in and year out, fills its usual spot on the Patriots preseason schedule, as does Mt. Juliet, another 2011 State Tournament participant.  That game will conclude the preseason and, hopefully, some questions will be answered regarding the Patriots starting lineup.

The 2012 season opens on Tuesday, March 13, against Overton HS, a team that lost in the Region finals in 2011.  The Bobcats will be in a rebuilding mode after the loss of Mookie Betts, a 5th round selection of the Boston Red Sox, and Matt Barrett, a Delta State University signee.

Several tournaments highlight the early part of the 2012 season.  The Patriots will participate in the usual Wilson County Invitational tournament, as well as the Warrior Spring Classic.  This year, the Pats will participate in the Smyrna Grand Slam Tournament, hosting several games at Mack Hawks Field.

The district schedule begins April 3 against Lavergne and concludes with the series against Riverdale.  The district schedule has been restructured this year to allow teams to play district matchups after Spring Break and the annual tournaments.
